my ship is skidding slow.
A black din of air
has caked my window
with an impassive portrait
of the Earth parallel.
My brain has gone mute
and my radio static.
I have put everything
on automatic.
The expanse of my world
is the reach of my arms
and the breadth of the sun
and the depth of canyons.
I have told myself thrice,
but I still don’t believe it.
I belong on a certain planet.
I can’t stand but I can’t sit.
I’m shattering slowly,
like continents.
My soul is caught,
my brain is bought.
I have become an astronaut.
